Repair Questions

A few common questions from musicians and families planning a repair visit.

Do I need an appointment for repairs? NOPE!

You can just drop by and leave it with our counter staff during any normal hours. You may also see our friends at Mikes Music in Ellicott City or Music Go Round in Cockeysville. You may also drop off fretted instruments to any Mencheys Music and we will handle the rest.

Can you look at student instruments? Absolutley

Yes absolutley! The Band Shoppe MD supports local students and families with repair help for school music programs and everyday playability concerns. Some brands however we are not able to get replacement parts for. In those cases we will suggest a quality teacher preferred band.

How do I know if my instrument needs service? If you think it’s you it’s probably not.

If keys stick, valves feel slow, tuning becomes difficult, or the instrument has visible wear or damage, it is a good time to have it checked. Instruments should be serviced at least once a year

Do you also help with maintenance? Yes!

Not every visit is for a major repair. Routine care and adjustments can help prevent bigger issues and keep instruments performing well.

Should I repair or replace my instrument? Well that depends

Instrument replacement depends on the condition of the instrument and your goals. The shop can help you weigh repair needs alongside rental or purchase options. In many situations repairs will always be less than purchasing a new instrument.

Can you give me an estimate over the phone? Not exactly

To provide you a proper and accuate estimate we must see the instrument in person. We do have a list of starting rates to help you get an idea of the average costs of our most requested repairs. Custom work and custom builds are subject to shop approval and have a starting rate of $150 per hour.
